Heart Fatalities Statistics

The Heart

The average heart beats 80 times a minute; 115,000 times a day; 42 million times a year; 3 billion times in a lifetime.

The heart pumps blood through thousands of miles of arteries every minute and pumps around 2,000 gallons of blood through the body every day. Over a lifetime, the heart pumps 1 million barrels of blood -- a large enough volume to fill four supertankers!

If all of your body’s blood vessels were placed end to end, they would measure nearly 60,000 miles! Every 23 minutes blood circulates through the entire body.

Stress

  • 43% of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress.

  • 75-90% of all doctor’s office visits are for ailments and complaints related to stress.

  • Stress is linked to six of the leading causes of death: heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.

  • The lifetime prevalence of an emotional disorder is more than 50%, often due to chronic, untreated stress reactions.

Heart Fatalities

  • Cardiovascular disease is the cause of more deaths than the next seven causes of death combined!

  • Since 1984, more women have died of heart fatalities than men.

  • When the American Heart Association surveyed women, 61% said breast cancer was their greatest threat, and only 7% said heart disease. The real truth is heart problems kill ten times more women than breast cancer -- and 25% are only 35 to 44 years old.

  • 64% of sudden deaths in women with CAD have had no previous symptoms.

  • Each year, over 1 million Americans suffer heart attacks. Each day, 2,600 people die of heart-related causes. Almost one out of every 2.4 deaths is from heart fatalities.

  • Every 33 seconds, another heart fatality occurs in America and a loved one is lost.
