Explanation: The etymology (origin of meaning) for mysterious is mystsis, an ancient Greek word meaning: the opening and closing of the eyes of the crustaceans. The crustaceans (clams, crabs, lobsters) possess the ability to sense the high and low tidal fluctuations. If you take a hermit crab and transport it miles inland, it will sleep at the low tide and wake at the high tide (far removed from the ocean). The Greeks, noting this innate ability to sense that which cannot be seen, created the word mystsis to refer to fundamental natural forces that human beings cannot detect. So Einstein was saying that connecting with the mysterious opens us to the primordial forces of life.
